However I have to admit to not being the best of baking experts there is.. my cooking skills are often limited to baking with kids and remaining patient all the way through clouds of flour and baking soda. Tools needed: Oven Mixing Bowl Measuring Jug Ingredients: 125g plain flour 375g caster sugar 12 medium egg whites Half teaspoon cream of tartar 2 teaspoons grated rind of lemon Half teaspoon vanilla extract Cream of tartar Instructions for Angel Food Cake Recipe Pre-heat oven. Start by sifting the flour and half the sugar through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl Set aside. Beat the egg whites and cream of tartar in a bowl until soft peaks form. Gradually add the remaining sugar and beat until the egg whites are thick and shiny. Fold in the 2 teaspoons of lemon zest, vanilla and flour mixture. Pour the mixture into a non-greased 23cm angel food cake tin and bake at 190°C/gas mark 5 for 30 minutes Test for readiness by inserting a skewer into the angel cake and wait until it comes out clean Place the angel food pan onto wire rack and allow to cool. Run a knife around the edges of the tin to release the angelcake.
